M6 ‘BLOCKED’ after crash brings traffic to a standstill with drivers on Easter holiday getaways facing huge delays

Drivers have been urged to allow extra time for travel

THE M6 is completely blocked after a crash brought traffic to a standstill with drivers facing huge queues.

Motorists on their Easter holidays are stuck in bumper-to-bumper traffic on the northbound carriageway between Junction 16 and 17.

There is also gridlock on the A500 through Audley with cars piling up all the way to Junction 15.

Emergency services arrived at the site of the crash in South Cheshire and one lane remains shut.

With Easter school holidays starting from Monday many parents are hitting the road hoping to make the most out of the break.

A spokesperson for National Highways said: "Traffic is stopped on the M6 in Cheshire northbound between Junction and Junction 17 due to a collision.
