Prison visitor arrested after trying to smuggle in ‘deadly’ Beretta pistol

A PRISON visitor was arrested after trying to smuggle a Beretta pistol into the jail.
Security staff spotted the gas-powered firearm’s outline in a bag that was put through an X-ray machine.
The pistol, a replica of a 9mm Beretta handgun, costs £30 online and was hidden in clothing.
The bag was meant for a lag the visitor was due to meet, it was revealed.

A Lincoln jail source said: “The Beretta was fully working with the potential to fire a bullet.
It looked identical to a gun, had a 23-shot magazine and is deadly.”
An official memo said the visitor was arrested.
Glyn Travis of the Prison Officers Association said: “A gun in a prison is our worst nightmare.
It could have been used to take staff hostage, or make an escape.
“Worst case scenario, it could have been used to wound or kill.”
