INCOMING PM Theresa May has vowed to keep Downing Street’s Chief Mouser Larry the Cat in his job when she gets the keys to No 10, The Sun can reveal.

After fears Larry could be fur the chop, Mrs May’s spokesman said last night: “Theresa May has spent seven years making sure we have all been kept safe. Larry can sleep easy.”

Larry famously entered rodent infested Downing Street in 2011, a year after David Cameron became PM.

The grandly titled Chief Mouser actually answers to the Cabinet Office and does not belong to the Premier.

Government staff put cash in a kitty for his food and vet bills and he is free to roam across Whitehall.

Tabby Larry was rescued from an animal shelter in London, but he is famed for actually being terrible at his job of catching mice.

The former stray made the short journey from the stray cats home across the River Thames and taken in through the front down of No 10.

He’s often seen sleeping in the sunshine, or curled up underneath the Cabinet table instead.

But last night Team May moved to scotch speculation that Larry could be booted out when the current PM departs on Wednesday.
