A spokesman for the London Fire Brigade said it had sent three fire engines after it was called at 10.50, but added that they were still investigating the cause of the fire alert.

The Northern, Hammersmith and City, Circle and Metropolitan Lines are running as normal.

However Great Northern trains have been delayed and some services cancelled.

The rail operator confirmed that all lines are currently blocked in and out of Moorgate mainline station, with services diverted to Kings Cross until further notice.

National Rail added there will be disruption on the line between the station and Finsbury Park until at least 3pm.
