A DRIVER died after he crashed through metal railings and plunged 50ft over a cliff onto the rocks below.
Dramatic pictures show the mangled wreckage of the blue BMW on the shore beneath Corbyn Head in Torquay, Devon.
Lifeboats and the coastguard rescuers were called to the scene at 1.41am this morning where a man's body was recovered from the wreckage of the car.
A spokesman for the RNLI said: "A car had gone over the cliff at low water. The all-weather boat lit the area with a search light while the inshore boat with coastguards went in and recovered a body from the wreckage."
Details of the dead man have yet to be released.
A spokesman for Torbay Coastguard said: "Full team paged to Corbyn Head after a vehicle had driven over the cliff. Berry Head Coastguard were also tasked to back us up.

"Search teams walked around the bottom of the cliff with police and ambulance crews to look for casualties. A man was recovered from the vehicle and secured into a basket stretcher.
"Torbay inshore lifeboat then transferred the stretcher to Torquay harbour where Teignmouth Coastguard assisted with the transfer into an awaiting ambulance."
