Footage taken of the park shows empty roads where cars and families were just days ago enjoying sunshine and warm weather.

Hurriane Matthew forced the first closure of the theme park in 11 years after a state of emergency was declared ahead of its arrival in Florida.

Tens of thousands of Brits are thought to have been caught up in the chaos with 1.4million visiting the state every year for attractions such as Disney World and Universal Studios.

Officials at Walt Disney World, Universal Studios and SeaWorld all said they were shutting down until the storm passed.

Disney officials said theme parks, water parks, Disney Springs, the miniature golf course and the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex closed at 5pm yesterday.

Universal Studios Florida, Universal's Islands of Adventure and Universal Citywalk closed at 5pm and remained closed on today.

And SeaWorld announced on its website that the park would close at 2pm and remain closed on today.
