HEART-STOPPING footage shows a Ford Fiesta driver losing control of their vehicle before crashing into a trailer and spinning into the fast lane.

The driver smacks into the central reservation and crunches the bonnet of his car before coming to a full stop on the motorway.

Dashcam footage filmed by YouTube user Andrew Owens shows the Ford Fiesta driver swerving from left to right in the middle lane of a motorway in Porthcawl, Wales.

The motorist then smashes into a trailer attached to the back of a white van.

The trailer and the silver hatchback go careering into the central reservation before rebounding back into the fast lane.

Mr Owens, who was driving down the fast lane at the time, managed to stop just inches away from the halted Ford Fiesta.

Footage from his car then shows plumes of smoke coming from the stricken hatchback.
