Theresa May’s enforcer made outrageous claim a top Tory ‘cheated on his wife with another man’
Chief Whip Gavin Williamson made the false accusation against a prominent Brexiteer during referendum

THERESA May’s chief whip has been accused of smearing a prominent Brexit-backing minister with gay sex allegations.
Senior Tory Gavin Williamson is alleged to have spread untrue rumours that the married Leave campaigner – who has now left government - had a fling with another man in the run up to the EU referendum.
Nicknamed “the baby-faced assassin’, Mr Williamson was serving as David Cameron’s Commons aide at the time.
He has since been promoted by new PM Theresa May to be her chief enforcer in the Commons.
Friends of Michael Gove yesterday insisted the smears were unlikely to have been made about him as it is the first time he has heard them.
The former Justice Secretary lead the Leave campaign alongside Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson.
Confronted by the claim made by a Sunday newspaper, Mr Williamson said: “I don‘t comment on malicious rumours”.
