Who was Lesley Molseed?

Lesley Molseed, born Lesley Susan Anderson, was a British schoolgirl, who disappeared near Rochdale on October 5, 1975.

She was born August 14, 1964, in Manchester.

Lesley lived with her mother April, stepfather Danny and three siblings.

She suffered from a birth condition, which included cardiac complications.

Even though she had open heart surgery at the age of three, she was undersized and had a reduce mental level for her age.

What happened to Lesley Molseed?

Lesley was sent to buy groceries for her mother on October 5, 1975.

Her mother reported her missing after she did not return home.

A few days after, the police found her body near West Yorkshire on a motorway stop.

She had been sexually assaulted and stabbed twelve times in her upper shoulders and back.

One of the wounds punctured her heart.

On December 21, 1975, police arrested Stefan Kiszko, a local tax-clerk with mental health problems.

He was falsely convicted after he confessed the crime during an investigation.

In July 1976 he was sentenced to life in prison at Leeds Crown Court.

His mother contacted the human rights organisation Justice in 1984 to get help to prove that her son was innocent.

Lawyer Campbell Malone took over the case and in 1992 the case was taken back to court.

Kiszko was released in April 1994 after it was proved he did not murdered Lesley.

Fourteen years after Kiszko's release in November 2006 the police arrested comic book dealer Ronald Castree.

He was arrested before in October 2005 for a sex crime but was not charged.

However Castree's DNA matched the sample found on Lesley's body in 1975.

On November 12, 2007, he was found guilty and sentenced to life imprisonment.
