Woman’s narrow escape as Aldi scales shatter in ‘explosion’ causing shards of glass to go flying
Lucky Paula Richards avoided serious injury when her bathroom scales broke just three weeks after she bought them

A woman was lucky to walk away unharmed when her bathroom scales spontaneously exploded.
Paula Richards said she had barely touched the scales when they shattered - sending razor-sharp glass fragments flying thought the air.
The dangerous scales had been purchased from Aldi in Atherstone, Warwickshire just three weeks before the incident, and had only been used a few times.
Paula, who is currently undergoing chemotherapy, said: "They're kept out the way and on that morning I went to pick them up to move them so I could weigh myself and they just exploded.
"I was very shocked and glad it hadn't happened when I stood on them else they could have cut me.
"If they're faulty they need recalling and if anyone has any they need to be very cautious as potentially dangerous.
Concerned that somebody else could be hurt by the dodgy scales, Paula later took to Facebook to warn others.
She said: "I put them on the Atherstone forum site to warn others and the area manager Tom contacted me straight away.
"He's arranged to collect them from me and forward them to be investigated and give me a full refund."
Paula was given flowers and a bottle of wine by area manager Tom Myatt, who assured her that an investigation will be launched into the cause of explosion.
