TERROR group Hamas is attempting to blame Israel after a hostage was brutally killed and two others wounded.

Prison guards opened fire on their Israeli captive and mercilessly killed him, according to the spokesperson for Hamas' armed wing, al-Qassam Brigades.

He also said two other women captives were seriously wounded in a separate incident and that attempts were being made to save their lives.

Abu Obaida, the spokesperson, said a committee has been formed to investigate what happened in both incidents - but made the staggering claim that Israel was at fault.

He said: “The enemy government (Israel) bears full responsibility for these massacres and the resulting reactions that affect the lives of Zionist prisoners."

It is not yet clear who the dead man is or why the guards opened fire, but the spokesperson blamed Israel without proof.

In a statement posted to Telegram, Obaida added: “In two separate incidents, two (Hamas) soldiers assigned to guard enemy prisoners fired at a Zionist prisoner, killing him immediately, and also injured two female prisoners critically.”

He did not elaborate on when or where the incidents took place.

Israeli Defence Force spokesman Daniel Hagari said they had no intelligence on the claimed death.

He said: "We continue to check and find out the reliability of the message and will update as soon as possible with any information we have."

Obaida threatened to execute Israeli hostages and release footage of the killings at the beginning of the war.

Israel has previously dismissed Hamas’ statements on the deaths of hostages as psychological warfare.

As of June, more than 100 Israeli hostages had returned home to Israel.

But the IDF says 74 are still held by Hamas 10 months after the terror group snatched them in their October 7 attack.

Tragically, the group is also thought to hold the bodies of 41 dead hostages.

Hagari earlier on Monday said: “We do not forget for a moment the hostages being cruelly held by Hamas in Gaza.

“We are deeply concerned about their physical and mental condition, given the prolonged time that has passed and the harsh conditions of their captivity.”

It comes after a devastated mum of an Israeli hostage trapped in Gaza opened up about how she stared into the eyes of an evil Hamas terrorist October 7.

Simona Steinbrecher, 63, lives in one of the border communities first hit in the Hamas horror.

Simona told The Sun how Hamas terrorists dressed as Israeli soldiers ravaged the kibbutz, murdering 64 and snatching 19 people including her daughter.

Doron Steinbrecher, 30, is a veterinary student who was living in an apartment not far from her family in Kfar Aza.

She has been trapped in the Gaza Strip for 308 days and her heartbroken mum is terrified about what she might be enduring there.

Doron needs daily medication, which Simona fears she isn't getting, and none of the hostages released so far have brought home any news of her.

Meanwhile, Israel has vowed to take out new Hamas chief Yahya Sinwar after he was made de facto leader.

He's been branded the bin Laden of Gaza for his role as the mastermind behind October 7.

Sinwar has been elevated to the top job after the suspected Israeli assassination of Hamas political boss Ismail Haniyeh last week.

Sinwar was in 2015 named by the United States on its blacklist of international terrorists.

He rises to a more senior role amid boiling tensions in the Middle East.

The US on Monday ordered a submarine and aircraft carrier strike group to rush to the region, increasing speculation that Israel could soon come under attack from either Iran's proxies or Iran itself.

White House national security adviser John Kirby on Monday said: “We have to be prepared for what could be a significant set of attacks.

"Which is why we have increased our force posture and capabilities in the region even in just the last few days."

The Israel-Hamas war

By Ellie Doughty, Foreign News Reporter

IN the 10 months since Hamas attacked Israel in October 2023, waves of conflict have broken out across the Middle East.

Some 1,200 Israelis and foreigners were killed and 250 taken hostage in the hideous ambush.

115 hostages are believed to still be in Gaza, including 41 whose deaths have been confirmed by the Israeli authorities.

Israel has repeatedly vowed to wipe out every member of Hamas despite civilian collateral in the Gaza Strip.

Hamas claims some 40,000 have died in Gaza - and the IDF say they have killed 15,000 terrorists since October 7.

Most of the Strip has also been destroyed by the fighting and airstrikes, reportedly displacing some two million people from their homes.

Some Israelis have pushed against Netanyahu's regime for a deal that will see the 115 hostages who remain in Gaza alive returned home with protests in Tel Aviv.

Israel is also facing a fresh wave of conflict with Iran and its various other puppet proxies in the region, namely Hezbollah in Lebanon and the Houthis in Yemen.

Civilians across the region are at risk from the fighting, particularly in Gaza and Lebanon.
