THE A14 is shut after a horror triple lorry crash - as drivers face massive delays with "no estimated time" for reopening.

The major A road was closed this morning from Brampton Hut, Cambridgeshire to J21 at Ellington after three lorries collided at around 3:30am.

Emergency services, including local firefighters and police, were called to the scene where one victim was removed from a vehicle using specialist equipment.

Motorists have been urged to plan ahead and ensure plenty of time for their journeys as a result of mounting congestion.

National Highways East said: "The #A14 westbound remains closed between J22 (#Brampton) and J20 (#Ellington) for recovery and clear-up work.

"There has also been an incident of the eastbound carriageway closing 1 lane. Allow extra time for your journey."

A diversion has been put in place, directing motorists towards the A1m to Peterborough and down the A605 past Oundle.

Cambridgeshire Police said: "A14 west bound carriageway closed from Brampton Hut to J21 Ellington until at least 0800 for vehicle recovery."

This comes just hours after crash occurred on the M2 heading coastbound between Junction 2 for Strood and Rochester to Junction 3 for Chatham.

Kent Police confirmed two cars collided and a woman was taken to hospital.

The incident occurred shortly after 4.12pm on Wednesday and has caused major delays.

Images from the scene show one charred vehicle badly damaged after the fire.

Motorists reported stationary traffic with waits of more than an hour.

Emergency services including cops were in attendance with the M2 brought to a standstill during rush hour.

National Highways Traffic Officers were also on scene assisting with traffic management.

Images from the scene showed the scale of the disruption, with stationary vehicles lined along the carriageway.

A police spokesman said: “Police were called at 4.12pm on April 16, following a collision involving two cars on the coastbound M2, between junctions 2 and 3.

“Officers are at the scene, along with fire and ambulance crews and a woman has been taken to hospital.

"The coastbound carriageway is currently closed.”
