Major UK airport plunged into chaos after IT issue with flights delayed and passengers urged to check journeys

A HUGE IT blunder at Stansted Airport caused chaos for thousands of passengers today.
Holidaymakers were crammed in queues for hours, with some having no choice but to give up and head back home.
The fault happened at around 2.30pm and affected check in, baggage and security throughout the London-based airport.
Despite the glitch being resolved, it has created a ripple effect and furious travellers claim their holidays were "ruined" as a result.
Huge areas of departures ground to a complete standstill, with furious customers standing shoulder to shoulder with "no guidance" from airport staff.
Whilst thousands were blocked from check-in for hours, Jet2 and Tui delayed departures to wait for passengers to reach the gate.
Earlier today, one unfortunate holidaymaker said he'd been stuck for 90 minutes.
"Stood for 90 minutes so far between getting bag tags and waiting to put my bag on the belt at Stansted airport.
"No movement, flight leaves in 30 minutes. Holiday f*****," he fumed.
Another customer said the queues had spilled outside the terminal.
It is not yet clear how long the delays are expected to last or how many flights will be affected.
In the most recent update, a spokesperson for Stansted at midday said: "Earlier this morning, an IT issue affected several airport systems.
"While the issue has now been fully resolved, some departing flights may still experience delays.
"We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience this may cause. We thank our customers for their patience and understanding, and thank our colleagues for their hard work during this incident.
"Passengers are advised to stay in contact with their airline for the latest flight information."
Frustrated passengers have taken to social media, sharing photos of massive queues.
One wrote: "Total chaos at Stansted Airport. IT outage and everything completely stuck!"
Another furious traveller said he left the airport and booked a new flight.
"Holiday off to a great start... gave up. Stansted in meltdown. Came home and booked an easyJet flight from Gatwick later," they wrote.
"You know those Karen tweets about 'no one giving us information', turns out that is a thing and it's very infuriating!"
A spokesperson for Stansted to The Sun: "The IT issue was fully resolved about 10.30 this morning and operations have largely returned to normal now."
The spokesperson refused to comment on the disruption faced by passengers or whether flights were still being affected.
