Dramatic moment Manchester armed cops force man to the ground and point gun at his head after swooping on Hulme over ‘suspicious package’ reports

ARMED police forced a Manchester man to the ground at gunpoint as the Army and a bomb squad were drafted in to join a dramatic response to a suspicious package.
This is the latest in a string of alerts police have been called to as the city is on edge, just three days after the devastating suicide bombing at an Ariana Grande concert.
More than half a dozen police cars pulled up on the street in the Hulme area just after 10am as the city remains on high alert.
After multiple officers armed with guns, soldiers and a bomb squad were drafted in Greater Manchester Police confirmed the large-scale response was for a suspicious package - now deemed safe.
This comes after SAS troops have been drafted in to help police raids in other areas of the city since Monday night's atrocity - demonstrating how seriously police are taking any reports which might be linked to another attack.
However in this event police have confirmed: "This incident has now been deemed safe and the cordon has been removed."
Greater Manchester Chief Constable Ian Hopkins said: "The incident is not necessarily linked to the wider investigation but we take reports such as this very seriously.
"As this incident in Hulme has shown, it is important that people remain vigilant and report any concerns they have to the anti-terror hotline."

"The army attended Linby Street in Hulme and not a college in Trafford," the police said on Twitter.
A witnessed claimed she saw a man pinned to the floor after being tackled by police before they stormed the building.
