Britain’s police forces should be ashamed they let down 100-year-old Zofija Kaczan
The killing of Zofija is yet another example of how our impotent police force have surrendered their grip on our nation's streets

SHE was born during one world war and survived the second. But Zofija Kaczan finally fell victim to the anarchy gripping Britain in 2018.
The 100-year-old widow’s fatal mugging is another shaming moment for a police force that has surrendered control of our streets nationwide.
London alone has seen more than 60 murders. Savage gangs and brazen, remorseless muggers run amok. No wonder, when the Met solves only a tiny number of violent crimes.
“Tory cuts” is a lazy excuse for losing the plot. Cops have given up patrolling, or probing any offences considered too time-consuming. But they will devote resources to bogus sex claims involving VIPs or to social media virtue-signalling.
And just when it needs a tough crime-fighting Mayor, the capital has Sadiq Khan — his sole apparent interest being in grandstanding as the PR man for Remain Central. It’s time he actually led, and told the Met to get back to basics.
And that goes for every force in the land.
Footie greed
OUR hearts bleed for the Premier League Big Six and their greedy demand for an even fatter slice of the pie.
Have their mainly foreign owners any idea of the colossal harm they would inflict on the crown jewel of our national sport if the financial gulf between them and the smaller clubs grew wider?
Executive chairman Richard Scudamore should not appease them over foreign TV rights. The system works. And the other clubs must outvote them today.
It’s not the Manchester or London giants that need millions more. It’s grassroots outfits nationwide playing on pitches resembling a World War One battlefield.
After the Prem’s most lucrative season yet, Scudamore should commit to bunging them at least five per cent of the take.
They are football’s lifeblood.
Loopy Labour
THE Government’s Brexit position is in chaos. But at least it has an excuse.
It is navigating the most treacherous waters of any administration in 70 years — with enemies on all sides undermining it and our democracy too.
What’s Labour’s defence?
From the luxury of leisurely opposition it dreams up a plan apparently designed to insult voters’ intelligence: that Britain should now insist on keeping every single benefit of the single market without either being in it or accepting its main responsibilities, chiefly the free movement of migrants.
The EU long ago rejected exactly such wishful thinking with contempt. And the implication that Corbyn is the man to win them round is truly hilarious.

To his lackey Keir Starmer, though, this is a “strong and balanced” strategy.
Which it is, if you also accept that the Mad Hatter was strong and balanced.
