THE THIN FLEW LINE

Cops hit on plan to cut hot weather burglaries by ‘flying’ leaflets through open windows

Dorset Police’s blue paper planes have the force's logo on the wings and a message asking: 'How did I get here?'

COPS have hit on a flight of fancy in a bid to cut crime — throwing paper planes through open windows and doors.

They want to show how easy it is for burglars to take advantage during the hot weather.

Dorset Police have hit on a flight of fancy in a bid to cut crime — throwing paper planes through open windows and doors.

Dorset Police’s blue paper planes have their logo on the wings and a message asking:  “How did I get here?”.

When it is unfolded, it reads: “Secure your home. This could have been a burglar. Remember to lock your doors and windows.”

But John Keppie, a victim of crime in Bournemouth, see story below, called it “crazy”.

He said: “They have the time and resources to do this but not to investigate a crime that has happened to me. It is a waste of time.”

The force’s Det Insp Neil Wright said it was designed to show what the public can do to prevent a burglary.

He said: “If your home looks insecure to you, it will look insecure to a burglar.”

REVENGE IS SWEETS

A SHOP boss barred from displaying posters of suspected thieves has defied cops by covering the suspects’ faces with sweets.

John Keppie, 31, put up CCTV pics in his window.
He said he was told police were too busy to deal with it. But a PC told him to remove the snaps as they may break Data Protection laws.
John’s new posters use an M&S Percy Pig. He said in Bournemouth: “It’s a joke but should solve the data protection issue.”
