'This seems a bad idea'

Hapless Corbyn forced to reshuffle his reshuffle after mic catches him having second thoughts

The Labour leader seemed to shuffle his cabinet yet again just minutes later

JEREMY Corbyn's live launch of his new shadow cabinet descended into farce this afternoon as he was caught on camera saying: "This seems a bad idea".

The hapless Labour leader had invited the cameras into what could be the first and last meeting of his new shadow cabinet after more than 50 frontbenchers quit his top team.

But the embattled Labour leader seemed to have second thoughts as the Sky News cameras trained their gaze on him flanked by loyal Cat Smith and deputy leader Tom Watson who is rumoured to be lining up to replace Mr Corbyn.

The rest of the room was filled with relative unknowns after the high profile resignations of Angela Eagle, Chris Bryant and Heidi Alexander.

Grimacing at his spin doctor out of shot he then tells Seumas Milne: "I'm not sure this is a great idea either."

A panicked voice out of shot shouts "turn the mic off" appearing to point to one left on Ms Smith's desk which was picking up his hushed conversation.

He then asks: "Are we getting the camera to go or what? Can we do something later on, ok?"

A few minutes later the Sky News cameraman appears to be allowed back into the room where Mr Watson has been replaced with Mr Corbyn's Parliamentary Private Secretary Steve Rotherham and Ms Smith has been ousted for arch loyalist Emily Thornberry - recently promoted to shadow foreign secretary.

Mr Corbyn appeared to be holding his first new shadow cabinet meeting since the EU referendum result in a much smaller room.

The Labour leader has so far failed to fill half of his frontbench positions and a large number of cabinet posts.

Labour MPs are currently voting on a motion of no confidence in the Labour leader and a result is expected at 5pm.
