They scored just 38 times in the Premier League and to put that right, the club did weigh up a move for Abraham, claim .

However, the deal is now off after his devastating knee injury in Roma's last game of the season.

Speculation suggests that he could be out until the end of the year and Chelsea are reportedly no longer interested.

Abraham, 25, left Stamford Bridge in August 2021 after coming through the club's academy.

Roma paid just £34million for him and he has since fired them to Conference League victory, a Europa League final and two sixth place finishes in Serie A.

He has also proved a fans' favourite in Italy after scoring 27 goals in his debut campaign.

But the goals dried up as he found the back of the net just nine times last term.

Roma are dealing with financial difficulties and, after wanting £70million for him, it is now reported they could accept £40m.
