F1 Austrian Grand Prix LIVE RESULT: Max Verstappen seals dominant win, Lewis Hamilton given penalty

MAX VERSTAPPEN has increased his mammoth lead at the top of the Driver's Standings with victory at the Austria Grand Prix!

Charles Leclerc came in second while Sergio Perez was third.

Lewis Hamilton picked up a five second penalty as he endured an unhappy afternoon.

  • Lap 37/71 – Verstappen leads, Leclerc second

    Charles Leclerc tried all he could to resist the Red Bull there.

    As much as people praise the Red Bull car, you cannot forget about the driving abilities of Max Verstappen.

    He now builds a 2.5 second lead on the Ferrari.

  • Lap 35/71 – Verstappen leads, Leclerc second

    Max Verstappen is right on the tail of Charles Leclerc.

    After pitting he was seven seconds behind the Ferrari, now Leclerc is having to defend for his life.

    Verstappen takes the Ferrari on the inside of the corner, brilliant move by the Red Bull driver.

  • Lap 33/71 – Leclerc leads, Verstappen second

    Leclerc tells his team the degradation of the tyres may require three stops in this race.

    Drivers are struggling with the track limits and plenty of penalties are being handed out.

    Verstappen is closing the gap on Leclerc with every lap.

  • Lap 31/71 – Leclerc leads, Verstappen second

    Sergio Perez takes George Russell and moves into eighth place.

    Tsunoda is being investigated for not serving a penalty correctly.

    Verstappen is now 2.8 seconds behind Leclerc.

  • Lap 29/71 – Leclerc leads, Verstappen second

    Max Verstappen looks to cut the lead of Charles Leclerc.

    Meanwhile, Lewis Hamilton is struggling with the Mercedes braking system.

    Carlos Sainz becomes the fourth driver to receive a five second penalty for exceeding track limits.

  • Lap 27/71 – Leclerc leads, Verstappen second

    Verstappen is 5 seconds behind the race leader.

    Leclerc has it all to do to hold onto first place.

    Sainz was powerless to stop the Red Bull from taking him on the inside line.

    Great driving.

  • Lap 25/71 – Leclerc leads, Verstappen third

    As Max Verstappen pits and goes onto the hard tyres, both Ferraris are now ahead of him.

    The Red Bull driver's streak of 269 laps leading officially ends.

    Verstappen is really on the tail of Sainz as he looks to attack.

  • Lap 23/71 – Verstappen leads, Leclerc second

    Carlos Sainz has the fastest lap of the race so far.

    However, he is shown a black and white flag for exceeding track limits.

    Verstappen has a 14.2 second lead on Leclerc but has yet to pit.

  • Lap 21/71 – Verstappen leads, Leclerc second

    Sainz continues to press and takes Perez on the corner.

    He moves up to third place now.

    Carlos Sainz will now try to press his Ferrari teammate.

  • Lap 19/71 – Verstappen leads, Leclerc second

    Pitting has cost Carlos Sainz as he drops to fifth place.

    He continues to drive aggressively and manages to take Lewis Hamilton and get into fourth place.

    Fernando Alonso is back in seventh place.

  • Lap 17/71 – Verstappen leads, Leclerc second

    Lewis Hamilton is given a five second penalty for exceeding track limits.

    Max Verstappen now has a 17.2 second lead as the only driver to not pit during the virtual safety car.

    Sergio Perez is now in third place.

  • Lap 15/71 – Virtual safety car in place

    As they look to remove Hulkenberg's car, the virtual safety car is in place.

    Drivers take advantage to pit as the times lost are halved during this period.

    Verstappen is the only driver to not pit as it stands.

  • Lap 13/71 – Verstappen leads, Leclerc second

    Hamilton has been shown the black and white flag.

    If he exceeds track limits anymore, he will receive a five second penalty.

    Hamilton tells his team he cannot keep the car on the track as he is struggling to turn.

    Meanwhile, Nico Hulkenberg is off the track and out of the race.

  • Lap 11/71 – Verstappen leads, Leclerc second

    Hamilton is being reported for exceeding track limits.

    If he continues he will see a black and white flag.

    Sainz is driving like a man possessed today.

  • Lap 9/71 – Verstappen leads, Leclerc second

    Max Verstappen has built up a 2.5 second lead now.

    Carlos Sainz is right on the tail of Charles Leclerc.

    Lance Stroll moves up to seventh with Fernando Alonso in his sights.

  • Lap 7/71 – Verstappen leads, Leclerc second

    Carlos Sainz is putting real pressure on Charles Leclerc.

    Only 0.6 seconds separates the Ferrari drivers.

    Fernando Alonso is in sixth position, already taking teammate Lance Stroll.

  • Lap 5/71 – Verstappen leads, Leclerc second

    The safety car is back in and Verstappen leads by 1.2 seconds.

    Importantly, that will prevent Leclerc from being able to use DRS when it comes into force.

    Carlos Sainz is in third position, Lewis Hamilton in fourth.

  • Lap 3/71 – Safety car out on track

    Tsunoda has a coming together and suffers damage to his car.

    There is debris on the track as Tsunoda heads into the pits to have his front wing replaced.

    It seems the debris on track may be from Bottas' car.

    Charles Leclerc makes an aggressive start to the race.

    On two corners he tries to take Verstappen.

    Hamilton makes a good start too as he looks to work his way up the grid.

    The world of Formula One mourns the death of Dutch driver Dilano van't Hoff.

    Sadly the 18-year-old was killed during a race at Spa on the weekend.

    As he went off at a corner, his car was struck by another, causing his death.

  • Maclaren review of Norris' penalty

    The constructor exercised their right to review the penalty awarded to Lando Norris in the Canadian Grand Prix.

    The British driver was awarded a five second penalty for unsportsmanlike conduct.

    Despite the review the FIA stuck with their decision and the appeal was unsuccessful.

  • Red Bull gives you wins

    In the constructors' standings, Red Bull lead the way with a 168 point leads over Mercedes.

    All eight races this season have been won by Christian Horner's team.

    It is hard to see anyone challenging them for the trophy this season.
