BOXER Ginny Fuchs did not realise she had horrifically broken her thumb until AFTER her win over Adelaida Ruiz.

The American, 36, claimed the WBC interim super-flyweight title with a split-decision victory over compatriot Ruiz, 35, on Saturday night.

That was despite suffering a gruesome injury in the opening two minutes of their 10-round fight.

Fuchs, who has now won all four of her professional bouts, only discovered her broken thumb after the final bell when she took off her glove.

Speaking to , she said: "I felt it the first round, I think it was the hook.

"I just thought I jammed it really bad, it kept hurting through the fight but I just tried to ignore it.

"But then when I took my glove off I was like 'Oh s***, I broke it."

Fuchs was taken to hospital as she shared pictures on her Instagram story.

Her boxing manager George Ruiz posted an image of her being carted off on a stretcher.

And he added the caption: "Ginny broke her thumb in the first round and then went on to fight 10 hard rounds without complaint. We had no idea until she took the gloves off.

"Absolute warrior. And now world champion."

Another photo saw Ginny smiling alongside promoter Eddie Hearn as she revelled in her victory despite the injury.

And she also posed for a snap from her hospital bed as she waited for "someone to fix her thumb".
