And when Gary Lineker put it to Wayne Rooney live on BBC before the FA Cup tie with Fulham, the United legend needed a deep intake of breath.

Match of the Day host Lineker turned to the pundit and said: "Nice easy question for you. What have you made of Ruben Amorim's tenure so far?"

Rooney puffed out his cheeks as he prepared to reply - four months after Amorim was appointed boss and with United now 14th in the Prem.

And yet again it came from woeful United defending.

Rooney called that opening period of Sunday's fifth-round clash a "tough watch".

He claimed there were stars "playing in the wrong positions" - labelling that a key problem for Amorim to solve in the summer transfer window.
