Grand National 2025 LIVE RESULTS: Broadway Boy update plus reaction after Nick Rockett won Aintree main event – latest

NICK ROCKETT powered home to win a thrilling Grand National at Aintree!

The Willie Mullins' trained Nick Rockett won an emotional National, in tribute for the horse's late co-owner Sadie Andrews.

Follow ALL of the latest from Aintree below...

  • Tip for the first race of the day

Rushmount has run two career bests on his last two outings in Ireland, finishing an eyecatching fourth to Grand National fancy Perceval Legallois in a big handicap hurdle at the Dublin Racing Festival and then winning with his head in his chest on good ground at Thurles.

He has gears for a three-miler and seemed to relish the surface then, and while he's a lot higher in the weights after the British handicapper added a further 4lb to his mark, the eight-year-old could well be good enough.

His trainer Jonathan Sweeney has only ever had three runners in Britain and has never had a winner, but in the last five seasons he has a 26 per cent with hurdlers in Ireland, which is remarkable for a small trainer having to go up against the might of Willie Mullins, Gordon Elliott and co day in, day out.

  • Girls setting the fashion trend

It has no doubt been something that has planned for weeks in advance to today's meet.

The wardrobe is as important as picking winners for this one.

  • Conditions expected to change

There are reports coming in that the going has now been changed to good at Aintree.

This is an interesting development as some horses do not prefer the firmer ground.

With the dry, sunny conditions there is only more of a chance of it drying out further before the big race.

  • Everyone voices their thoughts

All of your friends will tell you who you should bet on this afternoon in the big race.

They will say it with such an air of confidence that you can be forgiven for thinking they have insider info.

The reality is, this is such an open race at Aintree that is more guesswork than form that prevails.

  • All set up for the big day

It is expected to be sunny all afternoon for the showpiece event with no rain expected at all at Aintree.

The going is good to soft which makes for great racing conditions for most horses.

Aintree is enjoying temperatures of 16 degrees and the atmosphere is building around the paddock.

  • Bookies making final preparations

It always seems like a battle between bookie and punter at these events.

They will be hoping to get one over the gamblers this afternoon and make it a profitable day in Liverpool.

For the race-goers, there is nothing better than walking back with slip in hand to collect your winnings.

  • Aintree brings the betting out

Even people who rarely like to have a bet ensure they have a flutter on the Grand National.

It is thought over seven million Brits put some money down on the pinnacle of the race calendar.

Always the lottery to win on, there are so many things that need to go a horse's way to be the first to pass that finishing post today.

  • Templegate's tips for big race

As people try to get the inside line for making some money from the bookies today, The Sun's racing tipster gives his insight on how he sees the placing going at Aintree.

    1st Perceval Legallois
    2nd Iroko
    3rd Vanillier
    4th Hyland

He does not fancy Willie Mullens to repeat Red Rum's feat of back-to-back Grand National victories this afternoon.

  • Insider tips from the course

Nico de Boinville has given his top four for the big race today:

    1. Hyland
    2. Iroko
    3. Beauport
    4. I Am Maximus

The jockey said "We like to think he has a decent profile for this formidable challenge.

"He obviously is unproven beyond 3m1f but he is a classy operator, second in the Grade 1 Kauto Star at Kempton, and we were happy with the way he shaped at the same track after a short break last time.

"Hopefully, he is handicapped to give a good account of himself, and there could be more to come from him. But we all know how tough this race is."

  • Aintree the place to be

Those lucky enough to have got tickets for today are out in their finest, looking to make it a special day.

The drinks will be flowing, betting slips as far as the eye can see.

  • The jewel in the crown for race fans

It is the day that everyone marks out in their diary.

The big one, the Grand National.

Bookies and punters alike will be hoping it can be their day, the sun is out and we have an exciting day ahead of us.

  • I Am Maximus eyeing back-to-back National wins

The Willie Mullins-trained horse is aiming to become only the second winner to defend his title since the legendary Red Rum in the 1970s.

Only Tiger Roll in 2019 has done it since the three-time National champion.

Paul Townend is aboard I Am Maximus once again this year as the pair look to repeat their winning formula.

  • Disaster for Grand National day punters

Grand National day punters have suffered disaster after a mass of horses were pulled from Aintree.

At the time of writing some 17 horses have been taken out of their races - with two huge Nicky Henderson favourites among those withdrawn.

Those who followed him into today's 2m4f Mersey Novices' Hurdle were hurt again as the odds-on fav was declared a non-runner, one of three in the race.

While his other top horse Jeriko Du Reponet, who had been favourite for the opening handicap hurdle, was also pulled.

Meanwhile, amateur jockey David Maxwell's El Cairos, who was favourite for the concluding bumper, was another non-runner.

All 34 runners for the Grand National itself remain in the race.

  • Fergie's time for glory?

Sir Alex Ferguson is eyeing up the biggest payday of his horse racing career this afternoon.

The legendary football manager will run Hitman in the 4pm Aintree showpiece.

Hitman was due to compete in the Ryanair Chase at Cheltenham with fellow Fergie runner Protektorat, but the 9-year-old was withdrawn on the morning of the race.

The Sir Alex horse has ran a total of six times at Aintree, finishing in the top three on four occasions.

Freddie Gingell will be aboard Hitman in the Grand National.

The talented young jockey has ridden Fergie's horse three times, including his most recent run at Newbury in February.

Hitman is currently priced at 33/1 to take the prestigious title.

  • Hewick enjoying the sun

Grand National horse Hewick is out on the turf early ahead of this afternoon's £1million race.

The Irish runner was bought for just £850 and is also partial to a pint of Guinness.

Dubbed as the 'people's horse', Hewick has been well backed for Grand National glory.

  • Matt Chapman's 1-2-3-4 prediction for the National

Just over a year ago I AM MAXIMUS hacked up in the Grand National and looked like a horse who could easily go and win the big race again this year.

Since that day at Aintree, Willie Mullins’ grand gelding has been relatively hopeless, doing nothing in two runs in Grade 1s at Leopardstown.

He’s up to 167 from 159 which means he has to hump 11st 12lb to succeed again but I don’t think 8lb more would have stopped him 12 months ago and I’m happy to keep the faith I Am Maximus will follow up under Paul Townend.

VANILLIER has been here before, finishing second to Corach Rambler in 2023 when rated 147 and 14th last year off 151.

His mark this time is back to the 147 of 2023 which clearly gives him an each-way chance especially after his eye-catching third in the Cross-Country at Cheltenham when he might have won had he not nearly taken the wrong course!

MINELLA COCOONER has been nibbled at in ante-post lists and is the mount of Johnny Burke again for Mullins.

His third to Intense Raffles in the 2024 Irish National makes him interesting and that was on heavy ground.

He seemed to love a better surface when landing the race we all know as the Whitbread at Sandown this time last year and, while 6lb higher here, he might have a squeak.

MINELLA INDO probably needs a miracle at the age of 12 to land this, but he was a fine third last year and, of course, brings in the back class of being a Cheltenham Gold Cup hero.

He hasn’t done much recently but it’s clear trainer Henry De Bromhead has laid out for this and he’s a massive price.

  • Get your FREE sweepstake kit

Get a group of your mates, pop the names into the hat, collect the money for the kitty and, hopefully, find a winner!

With 34 runners everyone could put a fiver in giving you a pot of £170.

Whoever gets the first home could scoop the whole pot or you could have £100 for the winner, £40 for the second, £20 for third, £10 for fourth and a fiver for fifth.

  • Back for more

Rachael Blackmore will be looking to add to her history-making Grand National win in 2021.

The Irish jockey rode Minella Times to victory in the Aintree showpiece.

She will ride another Minella this year, Minella Indo.

Blackmore rode the Henry De Bromhead horse last year, finishing third, just eight lengths behind I Am Maximus.
