PSG vs Aston Villa LIVE RESULT: Villans left with it all to do in Champions League quarter-final after Mendes’ late goal

PSG have beaten Aston Villa 3-1 in the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final.

Morgan Rogers finished off a stunning Villa counter-attack to open the scoring on 35 minutes.

But Unai Emery's men didn't have the lead for long after 19-year-old Desire Doue levelled the tie with a WONDER STRIKE moments later.

Minutes into the second half, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia flew past Axel Disasi and smashed PSG into a 2-1 lead.

Nuno Mendes' stunning solo goal shattered Villa hearts late on as the Portuguese left-back made the quarter-final 3-1.

The two sides meet at Villa Park next Tuesday, with Emery's men needing a huge turnaround to stay in the Champions League.

  • PSG 2-1 Aston Villa

    66. After last night's result in North London, PSG are now favourites to win the Champions League this season.

It always seems a bold call from the bookies to make a side who have never won the competition in their history outright winners.

Plenty can happen in this quarter-final still.

Matty Cash makes way at half-time as Unai Emery decides it's too risky to leave him on after he was booked in the first-half.

But his replacement Axel Disasi got off to a disastrous start when PSG's Georgian genius Khvicha Kvaratskhelia turned him inside out.

What happened next was simply outrageous as Kvaratskhelia lashed the ball into the roof of the net, via the inside of the post from the tightest of angles, to leave Emi Martinez helpless for a second time tonight.

PSG are in control and threatening to run riot when Achraf Hakimi drills in a low shot which Martinez brilliantly palms away.

Villa are being over-run and Emery sends on PSG loanee Marco Asensio for Jacob Ramsey.

What a story if Asensio could put his parent club to the sword!

  • PSG 2-1 Aston Villa

    64. There is still a long way to go in this game.

The last thing Aston Villa want is to give PSG a big lead to take on their travels to Villa Park.

Emery needs to ensure his side keep their wits about them for entire duration of this tie,

    60. Asensio has come on for Ramsey.

PSG are just winning the ball back every time a move breaks down.

Doue looks to drag it back from the byline and it strikes the hand of the Villa defender.

The hosts want a penalty but the referee waves away their protests and the VAR check quickly clears the incident.

    58. It looks like Asensio is ready to join the action.

Tielemans tries to drift a ball into the box but it is half-cleared.

As the cross comes in, Torres meets it with his head but cannot test Donnarumma.

PSG counter and open up the visitors, Ruiz gets a shot off into the bottom corner but Martinez gets down well to save.

Doue gets back to lend a hand and they crowd out the Villa man.

PSG get forward and Kvaratskhelia tries another shot but it is blocked, at the expense of a corner.

  • PSG 2-1 Aston Villa

    54. Well if this wasn't a cauldron of noise before, it is now.

PSG's high tempo is really asking quesitons of the visitors.

Stick or twist time for Unai Emery, do they chase the equaliser or try to make sure they are still in this when they return to Villa Park.

He twists and turns to tease the Villa defence, before shifting onto his left foot in a wide position.

His drilled shot clips the inside of the woodwork leaving Martinez as a spectator as it goes in.

What an end to the first half!

Villa stunned the hosts by snatching the lead with their first shot on target.

John McGinn sacked Nuno Mendes in the PSG half and did what I asked for by getting Rashford involved.

He slid in Tielemans down the line and the Belgian lifted his head to take out Gianluigi Donnarumma and pick out Morgan Rogers.

The bargain £15million buy from Middlesbrough tapped the ball home to send Villa's travelling support wild.

But the joy was short-lived and PSG's teen sensation Desire Doue equalised with an absolute screamer five minutes later.

The 19-year-old banged an absolute peach into the top bin from 25 yards to leave Emi Martinez gasping.

Martinez then denied Doue a second, brilliantly beating out the kid's shot.

It's going to be a tough second half for Villa but Unai Emery is an expert at dealing with these situations.

  • PSG 1-1 Aston Villa

    46. Unai Emery has made one change at the interval.

Cash has been replaced by Disasi.

A centre-back by trade, this could be a big test for the man on loan from Chelsea.

  • Kick-off: PSG 1-1 Aston Villa

We are back underway in the French capital.

This game is still in the balance, although you would lean towards PSG given their dominance.

Luis Enrique's side get the second-half started.

  • HT: PSG 1-1 Aston Villa

There were some great images of Prince William celebrating the Aston Villa goal with his son George.

All the travelling Aston Villa support were in dreamland for the brief period they led at the Parc des Princes.

PSG did get an instant reply however, that was important you felt, the longer they trailed the more difficult this task would become.

  • HT: PSG 1-1 Aston Villa

Nobody can deny PSG have been the dominant force so far.

Having absorbed so much, Aston Villa really punished them on a rare attack to take the lead.

However, the impressive Desire Doue scored a sublime strike to get the hosts back on level terms.

  • HT: PSG 1-1 Aston Villa

The referee brings an enthralling half to an end.

Nothing to separate the two sides in Paris.

That was the sort of entertainment we have come to expect from the Champions League and these two teams delivered.
