GOOGLE has revealed the settings to keep on if you're worried about battery life.
They can save you from running out of charge so quickly – and there are very few downsides to using them.
The advice was issued in an official battery life memo from Google for Pixel phone owners – but it also applies to general Android users too.
It relates to two settings that you should leave switched on.
"To have apps use your phone's battery only when you need them to, keep Adaptive Battery and battery optimization on," Google explained.
"The Pixel battery continuously learns your behaviors and optimizes itself based on your most recent app usage.
"When you set up a new device or after a factory reset, optimization may take up a few weeks to take full effect.
"For best results keep Adaptive Battery and Battery Optimization on."
Bear in mind that the names of some of these settings will depend on the phone you're using.
And also note that some of these features won't work unless you're using Android 9.0 or later.

And to get the latest version, go to Settings > System > Software Update.
WHERE TO FIND ADAPTIVE BATTERY ON ANDROID
Adaptive Battery means that apps you use less often will "run less" while you're not using them, according to Google.
This should save battery in the long run.
Google Pixel battery tips – the official guide
Here's the official Google advice for Pixel owners on how to make your battery charge go further...
Tip 1: Let the phone close apps you’re not using.
Tip 2: Keep your phone and apps up to date. Applications become more battery efficient with each new iteration, addressing errors and glitches that use unnecessary power.
Tip 3: Turn down the brightness. Save your eyes by turning down the brightness of your phone, while also saving the battery. You can also set your phone to Dark theme, which turns your background to black. It uses less power and relieves some of the strain on your eyes, too.
Tip 4: Know which apps and activities are power hungry. Pixel users should be aware of what activities drain their batteries most. Video calls and gaming are at the top of the list. Users should also shut down apps they have opened but aren’t using.
And Adaptive Battery will optimize how apps use your battery over time.
This may result in some reduced performance and delayed notifications, however.
To find it, go to Settings > Battery > Battery Saver > Adaptive Battery.
Then simply toggle the setting on.
In a Reddit , one user hailed the Adaptive Battery feature as very useful.
They wrote: "Sometimes the battery savings are immense.
"I usually just always keep it on, otherwise my phone gets hot."
And another said: "Adaptive Battery is good to keep on for the long run."
Why do batteries get worse over time?
Here's what you need to know...
- Most gadgets run on lithium-ion batteries
- Over time, the amount of charge this type of battery can hold gets smaller
- That means you need to charge your device more often because they hold less charge
- Batteries have two electrode points – the cathode and the anode
- To charge a battery, the ions inside the battery are forced from the cathode to the anode
- When you use a battery, it moves in the reverse direction
- This process wears away at the structure of the anode, reducing its ability to function correctly
- But the process also builds up a kind of salt on the cathode when charging
- As this build-up grows, the battery will accept less charge over time
- It’s estimated that between 500 and 1,000 full charge-cycles will reduce a battery’s maximum capacity by roughly 20%
WHERE TO FIND BATTERY OPTIMIZATION ON ANDROID
You can also turn battery optimization on or off for specific apps.
If you turn it off for an app, it can use more power even if you have Adaptive Battery switched on.
