Fury as Netflix hikes UK subscription cost by up to £2 a month with users threatening to cancel

NETFLIX has quietly increased the price of subscription plans in the UK jumping by up to £2 per month.
Users of the standard plan will see the biggest jump, soaring from £10.99 to £12.99.
The most expensive premium plan will now costs users £18.99, up by £1.
And the cheapest ad-supported tier has seen its first price hike too, also going up £1 from £4.99 to £5.99.
The new prices were quietly revealed on Netflix's subscription page today and will affect both new and existing users, the firm confirmed to The Sun.
A notification is expected to go out to members via email soon detailing the changes, which will depend on their billing cycle.
“As we continue to invest in programming and deliver more value for our members, we will occasionally ask our members to pay a little more so that we can re-invest to further improve Netflix," a rep for the company said.
The move is also bad news for those who pay for extra members after Netflix banned password sharing.
An extra account outside your household will now cost £5.99 instead of £4.99, up by £1.
And an extra member on the ad-plan will now have to fork out £4.99 instead of £3.99.
Netflix last overhauled prices in the UK in December 2023.
Experts warned that a price surge was imminent in the UK after new higher fees were announced in the US, Canada, Argentina and Portugal.

"The streaming business is following the traditional pay TV world with annual price rises," Paolo Pescatore, an analyst from PP Foresight told The Sun.
"We should get accustomed to these price rises, more so as the streamer broadens its diversified portfolio of programming.
"In particular if it makes further opportunistic moves into acquiring live sports."
Users have threatened to cancel their subscriptions as a result of the announcement.
"Blimey, another price hike? They must think we’ve all got money trees in the garden!" one person wrote on X.
"That’s my @NetflixUK cancelled…" another commented.
"I dumped Netflix," a third viewer added.
"Annoyed at how the price went up and up yet new content was sh**e So thought I'd take 6months off it then they'll be lots to watch."
