Netflix has been serving up telly streaming for well over a decade.

And if you were an early subscriber, you might have watched thousands of movies and TV episodes in that time.

The good news is that Netflix keeps track of everything you've been streaming, and stores it all in a viewing log.

You can check this secret trove of history at any time just by going into your Netflix settings.

FIND YOUR NETFLIX VIEWING HISTORY

Open up a web browser on your phone or computer, and then log into the Netflix website.

Tap on your profile in the top-right corner, and then choose Account.

Now scroll down and select Manage Profiles.

Click on your own profile – the one you personally use for watching telly.

Then scroll down again and tap on the Viewing Activity button.

This will pull up what might be an enormous list of content that you've watched.

Freely the UK's new free streaming service

It's ordered by most to least recent, so you'll need to scroll right down to the bottom to find the TV show or movie that you watched first.

Of course, early Netflix subscribers and TV super-fans might find themselves scrolling for quite a while.

SECRET BONUS BENEFIT

If you look at the list, you'll notice little 'Cancel' symbols on the far right.

These buttons can be used to hide items from your Viewing History page.

And that means that Netflix won't use them to inform the shows and movies it recommends to you.

So by removing items you didn't personally watch (or don't particularly love), you can improve your recommendations.

And that should mean you find TV shows to watch much more quickly, as Netflix has a better idea of what you actually like.

If you click the button, you'll get an alert from Netflix.

"Within 24 hours, CONTENT TITLE will no longer appear in the Netflix service as a title you have watched," Netflix explains.

"And will no longer be used to make recommendations to you, unless you watch it again."

It usually takes about 24 hours for a hidden TV show or movie to fully disappear from your Netflix profile.

You can also view the Rating tab on the top of this page.

This lets you see how you've rated content in the past.

You can edit those ratings if you no longer agree with them, you made them by mistake, or someone else on your account gave them a rating you disagree with.

That should also help you get much better recommendations out of Netflix, which is always handy – especially after recent price hikes.
