Space tourist guides and sex-robot mechanics – are these 2028’s top jobs?
It's time to start planning for the future of work

TECHNOLOGY is changing the world – and your job prospects are changing with it.
Future-gazing Reddit users have their ideas for jobs that don't exist yet, but will by 2028. Do any of these take your fancy?
Space tourist guide
Tech billionaire Elon Musk is hoping to put humans on Mars in 2024, and we've been able to send people to the Moon since the sixties.
Musk and fellow titans Richard Branson and Jeff Bezos are all hoping to cash in on space tourism within the next decade.
So the idea of space tourist guides isn't that wacky – outer space is complicated, and someone needs to explain its best bits to off-planet holidaymakers.
And given that space travel is very expensive, becoming a tour guide could be a very cheap way to get yourself to the Moon or Mars.
Sex robot repair person
Sex robots are almost old hat these days: we've got sex robot brothels, virtual sex robots, sex robot video games – and even sex robot addicts.
But what happens if your bonking bot breaks? Right now, you'd simply have to take it to the retailer and ask for help.
If, however, sex robots eventually go mainstream and occupy every household, there'll be good money to be made fixing all those dirty droids locally.
So next time sexed-up Alexa breaks down, you can just take her to the high street for a tune-up.
Legal AI operator
Becoming a lawyer is hard work – endless exams, piles of paperwork and very long hours could put many off the job.
In the future however, legal cases could be overseen by artificial intelligence systems, even determining whether a case is winnable in advance.
As an operator, you'd handle legal cases "by inserting criteria into a model that predicts success rate of, for instance, going to court", one Redditor prophesied.
Several law companies are already investing in legal AI technology today, so it's a shoo-in for a top 2028 job.
End-of-line lorry driver
Early driverless cars and autonomous lorries are already on Britain's roads – but they have their limits.
Using computer systems to navigate lorries in busy, built-up and ever-changing areas is tough.
So it's entirely possible you'll have lorry drivers who let AI systems handle the motorways, and then take over for the final leg of the journey.
This means the lorry won't be left to its own devices, and accidentally crush a postbox trying to make a delivery in central London.
Esports ethics enforcer
Ethical competition in regular sports is important stuff – so why should professional gaming be any different?
After all, it's not as if esports is without controversy.
We've seen cheating fiascos, organisational corruption, and even doping scandals where gamers take performance-enhancing drugs to win matches.

Esports is big money, too: last year's The International Dota 2 tournament had a prize pool of over $25million (£20million).
Appointing ethics supervisors to keep the industry on the straight and narrow is likely to be very common by 2028.
