BIG Brother host Emma Willis does not think it's time to bring the popular reality series back to our TV sets just yet.

Emma speculated about the show's return on This Morning after The Sun revealed Big Brother was set to return next year — on ITV.

Producers are in talks about a return run featuring members of the public, we reported in April.

When quizzed by This Morning hosts Alison Hammond and Dermot O'Leary, Emma admitted it needs "a bit more of a rest."

The duo asked Emma if she knew anything about plans to revive the show as Alison revealed she thought Big Brother needed a big-shakeup.

"I think it needs to be a real refresh," Alison said, and Emma added: "I agree, I think: new era, new host."

Emma said: "Everybody wants it back. I think it will come back when it's ready, maybe it's not ready yet.

"If you're gonna do it again, you've got to do it fantastically well.

"Hopefully, there's somebody beavering away somewhere that is coming up with an amazing plan for it, but I don't know anything about it if they are."

Dermot also asked Emma what She loved about Big Brother.

"How real it was," she told him.

"I think if you go back to day dot when it first started and how it just took all of us by storm, it was just phenomenal.

"If it can do that again, and if it went back to that, I mean, it would be amazing wouldn't it?"

Big Brother has not aired on UK TV screens since 2018.

Vlogger Cameron Cole, then 22, was crowned the final winner of the iconic programme on November 5.

His triumph followed that of ex Corrie star Ryan Thomas, who had been announced the last winner of Celebrity Big Brother in August.

Prior to BB 2018 airing, a Channel 5 spokesman had confirmed: "The forthcoming series of Big Brother will be the last - of either celebrity or civilian versions - on Channel 5.

"We’d like to thank Endemol and all of the production team who have worked tirelessly to make the show a success."

Big Brother first launched on UK screens in 2000, with Davina McCall at the helm. Dermot O'Leary presented spin-off show Big Brother's Little Brother.

In 2011, the show moved to Channel 5 and BB 2001 winner Brian Dowling took over hosting duties. He was later replaced by Emma Willis. Rylan Clark, meanwhile, began presenting spin-off Big Brother's Bit On The Side.

To lift spirits during the height of the pandemic, however, Davina and Rylan hosted a special 20th anniversary mini-series in June of that year.

The pair spent time looking back at the most iconic episodes from BB and CBB's two-decade reign.

ITV Chiefs are considering screening the rebooted series on ITV2 in autumn 2023 after Love Island has aired.

A TV source said: “ITV is the home of big appointment telly.

“They know better than anyone how to put on big live events.

“They think putting it on ITV2 will open it up to a new audience and legion of younger fans.

“They are really keen on getting the deal done on Big Brother, and hope to have something firm to announce soon.

“The talks are still at an early, and delicate, stage and the next few weeks will be key.

“It needs the full treatment and they’re confident they are the ones who can return it to its legendary former glory.

“It has millions of fans and is one of the most iconic TV shows of its generation.”
