James Corden ‘won’t be replaced’ on The Late Late Show when he quits for UK in 2023

JAMES Corden won’t be replaced on The Late Late Show when he finishes his tenure to return home next year.
Instead, reports in the US suggest that CBS, who screen the talk show, will scrap the programme altogether and fill the gap in their schedule with a panel show.
Variety.com say that CBS is “considering replacing Corden’s distinct program with a multi-host panel”, which they says is “a sign of how late-night is changing as viewers sample the best of the programs via social media rather than watching them in their wee hours’ time slot”.
Their sources suggest concepts that could inspire the new show are news round tables like Bill Maher’s ABC show in the Nineties, Politically Incorrect, Chelsea Handler’s gossip show Chelsea Lately and Comedy Central’s gameshow @midnight.
James announced in April that this series of The Late Late Show would be his last and that he would begin that final year with four special episodes filmed in London.
The format has run since 1995 under three other hosts before James, Tom Snyder, Craig Kilborn and Craig Ferguson.

A source said: “There’s no greater compliment than a channel scrapping a show altogether when a host leaves - never mind replacing a solo show with a panel format.
“Talk about Corden’s shoes being too big to fill!”
James has promised his London shows will share “highlights of his homeland”, including versions of his famous segments like Crosswalk Musical and Carpool Karaoke.
It’s been three years since James last filmed the show in the UK, with those sessions featuring huge guests like Michelle Obama, Chris Hemsworth, Harry Styles and Sir Ian McKellan.

The London shows will stream on Sky Comedy from June 28 to July 1, with filming ongoing that week.
James announced in April he was quitting his hit US talk show to spend more time with his family in Britain, turning down a multi-million pound deal to stay in his role.
James told US showbiz website Deadline: "It’s been a really hard decision to leave because I’m so immensely proud of the show.
"I’ve really been thinking about it for a long time, thinking whether there might be one more adventure."
