In Monday's episode, the 18-year-old gathered her housemates to the kitchen table and revealed that she was transgender.

She said: "Hey guys, I just have something to say. Yesterday I feel like I wasn’t being 100% authentic in myself.

“I thought I’d let everyone know I’m trans, if you didn’t know already. I just thought I’d make that loud and clear.

"I’m a trans woman if you didn’t know."

She later opened up to Kerry and Jenkin in the dressing room about the difficult process so many transgender people face throughout the transition process.

Hallie shared: "I've never had a boyfriend, I've never had sex.

"I've never done anything sexual with anyone because I'm just not comfortable in my body.

"I am comfortable in myself. At the end of the day sex isn't the most important thing."

She continued: "The mind doesn't match the body that's the best way to describe it.

"That's the best way to describe being trans. Like I have a female mind but the body just doesn't match."

Viewers of Big Brother were quick to show their support as one watcher shared: " Halle, I am not able for you 😭👏❤️ iconic 💫 #BBUK #BigBrotherUK.

A second wrote: "Omg Hallie for the win 😭❤️ #BigBrotherUK."

"Hallie has started so many really important conversations - both in the Big Brother house and in houses across the nation - by being open about herself - truly beautiful stuff," a third commented.

A fourth said: "Big respect to Hallie."

During Big Brother's original 19-season run, it crowned two transgender winners, Nadia Almada in 2004 and Luke Anderson in 2012.

Other trans housemates to compete on the show include media personality Lauren Harries and newsreader India Willoughby.

Rebekah Shelton and Rebekah Alves have both come out as transgender since appearing on the show.
