Both anchors brought viewers the latest news from across the country.

As usual BBC Breakfast also had a number of human interest stories lined up to perk the engagement of viewers.

During the show Charlie, 61, and Naga, 48, welcomed Stacksteads Brass Band to the red sofa.

The stars also talked to Pontins staff who are affected by the holiday resort's latest closures.

But fans at home were left unimpressed with the lineup and demanded more news.

Writing on social media, one viewer said: "I don't remember them having ex-Pontins staff on when the two old sites closed but soon as the Southport one closes... oh look two staff members. They forget it's a national news programme at times."

A second raged: "Pontins and brass bands. It might be a New Year but it’s the same old b******s from #bbcbreakfast."

"Pontins, Brass Bands, next up we have a segment on how to recycle your Advent Crown," said a third.

While a fourth commented: "First Pontins….now brass bands….it's a litany of what I hated growing up. BBC north-west even had a weekly hour long brass band programme…..grrrr."

BBC Breakfast launched their brand new extended shows this week in a schedule shake-up.

The programme now airs from 6am and runs until 9:30am, before handing over to Morning Live.
