Anne's long-awaited TV return comes after she joined Countdown in 2021 - but left just a year later.

Three years later, the 80-year-old is at the helm of the show's challenging social experiment which sees four real-life sentencing hearings painstakingly recreated.

Participants have the chance to decide what sentence they believe a convicted criminal should get.

It is then revealed what sentence the presiding Judge actually passed.

They also compare their assessment against four groups judging alongside them.

These groups are comprised of retired judges, retired police officers, relatives of crime victims and former inmates.

Giving her take on the series and sentences, Anne told Good Morning Britain hosts Ed Balls, 58, and Susanna Reid, 54, she had learned: "Shorter sentences and more rehabilitation is what works."

Former Labour Shadow Chancellor Ed said: "Though actually that is the opposite of what …" before Anne starkly interjected: "I knew you were going to be awkward."

Ed, appearing lost for words, then said: "I'm not being awkward.

"I'm just saying, erm.

"Having enjoyed your programme most of the participants take the opposite view, they want longer sentences."

Anne, then proving her harsh words were in jest, agreed: "Totally."

One fan was quick to write on X: "'I knew you were going to be awkward'"followed by laughing Emoji icons.

Another quizzed: "Why did she have a pop at Ed???"

RAW REVEAL

Anne's new show will also put the spotlight on the tragic death of a Hollyoaks star.

The first case to be analysed in the series will be that of Frankie Jules-Hough, the actress who was killed in a horrific roadside crash in 2023.

The actress was pregnant and waiting in her car on a motorway after getting a puncture, when she was hit at 92mph by a BMW driven by Adil Iqbal.

He initially received a substantial sentence for the incident on the M66 in Bury, but it was later changed at the court of appeal.

But neither sentence was what campaigners were calling for after Iqbal’s actions claimed the life of Frankie and her unborn baby daughter.

A TV insider previously told us: “This was an incredibly tragic case, and one which is probably still fresh in the minds of many people.

“It is also one that will stir up a great deal of debate over exactly what sentence Iqbal should have received for it.

“Anne will be talking through all the different elements of the case with experts and trying to take the reins on what promises to be a controversial subject.”
