JAIME Lannister broke Brienne’s heart after turning his back on her to return to King’s Landing.
The pair shared undeniable chemistry and saved each other’s lives on more than one occasion, so understandably fans were left thrilled when they finally enjoyed a night of passion together.
Alas, Brienne (Gwendoline Christie) was left crushed when she woke the next morning to discover Jaime (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) had made a speedy departure and was already en route to the capital.
Jaime's motivations were never voiced explicitly, but in stage directions from leaked scripts of the show, we get some insight into what was going through his head.
As the pair laid in bed together after doing the deed, the directions read: “Brienne sleeps the sleep of the happily drunk and devirginized.
“Jaime can't sleep, however. He just helped save the world. So why does he feel like a traitor?”
Clearly Jaime's U-turn wasn’t entirely premeditated and it took a romp with someone else to remind him that Cersei is the true love of his life, incest and all.
What’s more, he clearly felt compelled to reclaim his loyalty to the Lannisters as he rode off to warn Cersei of the scale of Daenerys’ upcoming attack.
Still, in the end all was forgiven as Brienne was seen writing an entry in a history book singing the praises of Jaime in the show’s finale episode.
Jaime and Cersei’s death was widely panned by audiences, after the pair were crushed by falling rubble as they attempted to escape The Red Keep.

Cersei actress Lena Headey was outspoken about how disappointed she was with her death when the episode aired.
“I will say I wanted a better death,” she told The Guardian.
“Obviously, you dream of your death - you could go in any way on that show. So I was kind of gutted,” she went on.
“But I just think they couldn’t have pleased everyone.
"No matter what they did, I think there was going to be some big comedown from the climb.”
