RICHARD Madeley was left looking a little red-faced today after asking Ant and Dec if they have ever had a "complete breakdown".
Richard, 63, was interviewing the Geordie duo on This Morning with his wife Judy Finnigan, 71, when he dropped the unfortunate clanger.
The telly veteran was interviewing the pair about the risks of live TV head of tomorrow night's Saturday Night Takeaway return, when he said: "Have you ever had a complete breakdown?"
Stuttering, he added: "I don't mean personally...I mean..."
Breaking into laughter, Ant, 44, joked: "Oh that's happened!"
Trying to make the situation better, Richard told him: "We've all been there...."
Dec, 44, meanwhile, closed his eyes before puffing out his cheeks and looking at the crew off camera as he laughed awkwardly.
Last year, Saturday Night Takeaway took a hiatus following Ant's well documented personal breakdown.
In 2017, the star spent time in rehab to treat a painkiller addiction, sparked by knee surgery, before returning for treatment the following year after a drink-driving conviction.
Since SNT has been off air, Ant and his wife Lisa Armstrong have also got divorced after 11 years of marriage.
Taking to social media, fans were quick to comment on the blunder.
One tweeted:"Breakdown Ant? Oh.... Richard!"
Another joked: "I’ll give Richard his due, that was belter of a question. Ant and Dec were stuck for words there."
Richard and Judy had returned to This Morning to stand in for usual Friday hosts, Ruth Langsford and Eamonn Holmes.
