Fans admitted they would be "having nightmares" after watching a brutal fight scene, in which a man's throat was cut with a meat cleaver.

Already trudging through blood in his wellies after doing the awful job of dismembering someone in the bath, the unfortunate fella died by having his neck thrust on to the sharp edge of the kitchen utensil.

Another brutal scene saw a man's face being smashed against a bar with a glass ashtray in his mouth.

Viewers took to Twitter to address the heinous acts, which appear to be keeping them up at night.

One fan said: "#GangsofLondon hooked after the first episode, it’s brutal though that meat cleaver fight had me winching."

Another petrified fan asked: "I waited so long for #GangsOfLondon and the first ep did not disappoint. Still having flashbacks of the meat cleaver scene."

A third viewer wrote: "Not sure I will sleep tonight having watched the feature length of #GangsOfLondon. Sure I will be dreaming about a bloodied meat cleaver. Gripping stuff and brilliantly shot. Sope Dirisu and @theotherJoeCole bang on."

While a fourth fan, along with a GIF of someone looking horrified, posted: "#GangsOfLondon Me watching the meat cleaver scene."

The 31-year-old said: “When I received this, literally I read the title and I thought ‘no’.

“[But] I read the first episode and the synopsis and I was like ‘This could be something special’.”
