AMBULANCE viewers were left gobsmacked last night after a man had dialled 999 claiming he had a cucumber stuck up his bottom.
Call handler Sue was seen explaining the gentleman's unfortunate plight to a paramedic before he was dispatched to the scene.
Stifling a giggle, she said over the airwaves: "Romeo 6161, thanks Matt. It's a 20-year-old male with a cucumber in his...in his rectum."
Once on his way to the scene, Sue began laughing as she told her colleagues: "Matt said, 'Well I never expected that, Sue!"
Sue was then seen discussing whether or not it was a hoax with the call handler sat next to her.
"He could have been doing a little bit of late night gardening," she told him.
Her colleague replied: "It's one of your five-a-day anyway..."
Other staff members in the call centre were also seen giggling about the strange call. The cameras did not follow Matt to the scene.
Viewers took to Twitter in their droves after the clip aired during the BBC One show on Thursday night.
One wrote: "BBC Ambulance stating man with cucumber up his rectum, don’t know how I’m going to do the sarnies in the morning now with that thought in me ‘ead!"
Another tweeted: "Well there's a novel use for a cucumber!"
A third penned: "Cucumber up his butt, 🤷🏼♂️ I bet they don't show an #ambulance crew going out to that."
A fourth added: "Just watching Ambulance (Liverpool) on BBC 1 and a call has come in. A man has a cucumber stuck up his bum.
"Another staff member says well at least he’s had 1 of his 5 a day!"
