NIGELLA Lawson sent fans into meltdown with the bizarre way she pronounces 'microwave'.
The telly chef, 60, was preparing a dish of mashed potatoes when she mangled the name of the common household appliance, calling it a "meecro-wa-vay".
One viewer tweeted: "Eternally grateful to Nigella Lawson for letting us know we've all been mispronouncing microwave for the last 50 (or so) years."
Another wrote: "Henceforth, 'mecrowavay' shall forever be in my vocabulary and microwave will cease to exist Queen Nigella has spoken."
Nigella later weighed in on the pronunciation confusion when a fan tweeted her saying: "Am I the only one who thought @Nigella_Lawson was being sarcastic when she pronounced Meecro-wavé?!
"Now, I’m starting to think she really pronounces it like that?"
She replied: "Well, I do say it like that, but not because I think that’s how it’s actually pronounced."
Nigella used the unusual pronunciation during an episode of her BBC2 show Cook, Eat, Repeat on Monday night.
Pouring some milk into a pan, Nigella told viewers that she had warmed it in the “meecro-wa-vay”.
Microwaves, which zap food with electromagnetic radiation to heat it up, have been in common usage since the 1970s.
