Inside Zayn Malik’s toxic relationship with Gigi Hadid’s mum Yolanda from reality TV rows to ‘controlling guilt trips’
ZAYN Malik’s relationship with his mother-in-law Yolanda has hit headlines after The Real Housewives’ star claimed he “struck her”.
The former One Direction singer has vehemently denied the claims, but revealed he is no longer with Gigi, who he shares daughter Khai with.
The news sent shockwaves through their fan base, who always believed Zayn had an excellent relationship with the reality TV matriarch.
But insiders say that Zayn has had a rocky relationship with Yolanda for years due to their very different personalities.
A source told The Sun: “The thing is, Yolanda and Zayn are like chalk and cheese and they've never seen eye to eye.
“Zayn lives an almost hermit like existence, he likes quiet, solitude, a slow pace, working on music - the farm/rural life suits him and they've been living at the ranch for a while.
“Gigi loves it too - she cooks for him every single day and even took up knitting, she also does crafts around the home and painted rooms herself.
“But she also wants to go back to work - which means parties, events, red carpets, ad campaigns, Instagram - all the things that Zayn wants to avoid.”

They continued: “Yolanda has always been very supportive of and involved in Gigi's career and is always saying Zayn should do more to support her - walk red carpets with her, post about her on IG, at one point she even suggested a reality show and he was horrified.
“That's Zayn's idea of a nightmare. It was almost like he was being guilt tripped as she'd always be hinting that Zayn's reluctance to play the showbiz game was holding back Gigi's career.”
The source went on to say how the MET Gala this year was another source of contention as Zayn was due to attend but pulled out at the last minute.
Zayn has previously made his feelings very clear about the star-studded bash after he attended with Gigi in the past.
He said during an interview with GQ back in 2016: “Now, it’s not something I would go to. I’d rather be sitting at my house, doing something productive, than dressing up in really expensive clothes and being photographed on a red carpet….To do the self-indulgent ‘Look at me, I’m amazing’ thing on the red carpet, it’s not me.”
Gigi has opened up about Zayn’s relationship with her mum in the past and hinted that he knew she could be tricky at times.
She told Harper's Bazaar that "he's usually on my mum's side," adding: "So, he's smart in that sense."
The source added that Zayn might have finally dropped the niceties now he’s split from Gigi, saying: “They're both so devoted to Khai but after the split there was no reason for Zayn to play nice with Yolanda and I expect that's why the 'harsh words' were exchanged."
